Tutorial: What A Difference A Dot Makes

I was working on an order for five dozen mini makeup cookies and decided to keep it simple.
The problem with keeping it simple is there's not a lot of smoke and mirrors to distract you from any flaws.  Like imperfect circles for instance.  My quick fix for wonky circles? Camouflage the crap out of them with a decorative dot border.  Check it out.
This little blusher = wonky city.
To correct shape add evenly spaced dots using a number 1 tip so they create a more perfect circle shape. Let dry.
Come back with your number 1 tip and fill in blank spaces.  Booya!  Perfect-er circle with a decorative border.
Add a pretty little heart detail and you're in business.

Goooooooooooaaaal!

Rylee is a soccer-loving 6 year old (don't be confused by her jersey number!), and to celebrate her big day her mom ordered three dozen soccer-themed cookies on a stick to share at a really cool indoor soccer facility.  I got all of Rylee's stats, her favorite color, team number, hair and eye color, etc., so we could make them really personal and special for the birthday girl.  She also requested a custom display for them, so I filled these  cheery red tubs with real sod.   (Note to self: grass is moist and will make your cookie sticks a little limp!)  Check out all the details from this sporty cookie collection.  Enjoy!

As always, the simplest designs are the most challenging.  Getting the geometry on these soccer balls was tough!  And doing it twelve times - oy!  But I finally got the hang of it and they wound up looking more like soccer balls than depressing cubist flowers, so we'll call it a victory.

 Happy Birthday Rylee!

Ruffle Cake

The ruffle cake!  A new trend in cake decorating I've been anxious to try my hand at.  This baby is THREE entire boxed cakes and EIGHT cans of frosting.  Add to that a touch of carpal tunnel syndrome from the repetitive motion and voila!  You've got a ruffle cake.  Really pleased with the super femme and frilly results.  Check out the pics below for more details.

Madeline Birthday Party

Ooh la la! Our super French-ified Madeline party was yesterday and it was tres fantastique! This was truly a collaborative effort with Ryam, the hostess with the mostess. She came with tons of ideas and inspiration found on the web (a majority coming from Kate Landers Event's gorgeous Madeline party - see it here) and had a hand in many of the creative details. Plus she is an Amazon goddess with a terrific spirit and great sense of humor (I'm a major fan, if you can't tell). So the whole planning process was a really enjoyable experience. Below are pics from the sweetest little soiree for a four year old's birthday.  Enjoy!

We set the tone for a Parisian rendezvous with these hand made passport invitations featuring the party details and the birthday girl's mug shot inside.

The over the top kids' bistro room!  Ryam went crazy at Ikea and snapped up these yellow side tables for just $6 a piece, which was actually less expensive than renting and looked so flipping cute! Red and blue rental chairs and sweet floral centerpieces really set the stage of being in a Parisian cafe.
