Things Are Not as They Appear
Some lessons you have to learn the hard way. At least I do, it seems. My last post featured these cream and pale sea foam hot air balloons with a shot of deep burgundy. Nice enough. So what's the problem? Wellllll... They were supposed to complement the invitation below:
Insert needle scratch. What the what the? Why are the colors and details so... off? Turns out the reason for the disconnect is because I was using the file sent by my client instead of a hard copy. So what was reading as burgundy on my computer monitor was actually a soft pink. That dark band at the top of the basket was in reality sweet rose detailing. My angular cross-hatch netting should have been round and lacy.
Unfortunately for me, I didn't know all of this when I sent off a proof to my client, who had to break it to me that these were, basically, ALL WRONG. I felt terrible! But luckily my first draft hadn't taken too long to complete and my client still had faith in me. I asked her to send me the actual invitation and got back to the drawing board to attempt to get it right. Here are the new balloons based on the actual invite.
A wee bit closer, no? Let's compare:
The moral of the story is: Get the hard copy!

Shabby Chic Wedding in Aubergine
Love is in the air as we finished up one of our all time favorite jobs over the weekend in Canoga Park at Orcutt Ranch. Shabby chic, rustic and purple was the inspiration provided by the bride. We loved the cozy room with its beautiful glass wall to set our table up against, while still enjoying views of the gazebo and garden in full bloom, along with two walls of shelving for extra goodies. Take a look at all of the lovely, feminine details, many of them photographed by the supremely talented and generous Kurt Boomer of Kurt Boomer Photography, who shared his gorgeous photos and made our work look that much better. Enjoy!

Lots of feminine details with a gorgeous backdrop of rosette fabric panels and a tiered lacy table cloth with burlap rose swags set the stage for this pretty table. We had a great time collecting a beautiful, eclectic and interesting array of vessels and platters for all of our yummy treats.

I always ask my brides to think of a special treat to surprise their grooms with to add to the dessert table. We lucked out because our grooms favorite team worked with our color palette. Much appreciated!

Shelving merchandised with candlelit mason jars, cupcakes and popcorn boxes. Walking into the room with our table and these walls of goodies was like walking into a clean yet romantic sweet shoppe (yes, with an extra "p" and "e"). So, so pretty.

SIDENOTE: I really lucked out with this gig and I have Facebook to thank for it. One of my cookie decorating FB friends, the uber-talented Teresa of Sugar T's Cookies, volunteered to come on down and help me set up, and I was so grateful for the help! The crazy thing is Teresa and I had never met before. That's the power of Facebook and this fantastic sisterhood of cookie artists. Thanks again Teresa - you made setting up fast and fun!

Shabby Chic Shower
I love this shower thrown recently for over a hundred guests in a ballroom at the Anaheim Clarion Hotel. The hostess didn't really have a clear vision of what she wanted for her twin sister's baby shower, but had a color scheme of pink and brown in mind. Working off of that I came up with this shabby chic theme featuring a little girl's silhouette and damask print. I was also put in charge of creating the invitations, favors, games, wishing tree, guest book and thank you notes. Whew! Full service! Please enjoy the photos of Oh, Sugar!'s latest project.
Love these cupcake chandeliers. Tres femme!
