Taco Tutorial

These south of the border inspired treats were so easy peasy I thought I'd throw together a little taco tutorial for you.  I started with a circle cookie cutter to cut out half the number of tacos I would need and then took a sharp paring knife (Exactos are great for this, too) to cut them half giving me a perfect taco shell semi circle.
Using golden tan colored royal icing, outline your semi circle starting in about a quarter of an inch from the cookie's round edge to leave room for all those yummy taco fillings.
 Fill in taco shell.
Working from the background to the foreground with your taco fillings, add random jagged lettuce in soft green royal icing.
On top of the lettuce and closer to the taco shell pipe the ground beef in dark brown royal icing.
Fill in any gaps with diced tomato squares in red.  Try to pepper them in randomly to give them that natural taco look ;)
The last ingredient is shredded cheddar cheese in light yellow orange icing piped in thick half inch lines going this way and that.  You really can't screw these up.
The final touch is to clean up the taco shell by outlining the top arch with the same golden yellow icing you began with.  Aaaand... ole!  Tacos por todos!

Margaritaville Cookies

The fab folks from Party Planning Connection ordered a couple dozen cookies for their Margaritaville themed party.  They wanted Corona bottles, margaritas (of course), and limes. Just looking at this collection makes me want to put the kid to bed early and fire up the blender. Enjoy!

Blog Love: SugarBelle

So I got home from Walmart, looking like a hobo and hoping not to find myself featured on peopleofwalmart.com, and opened my email to find a note from my sugar cookie hero SugarBelle (aka Callye Alvarado) wondering if she could feature my Cinco de Mayo cookies on her super fab and super popular blog sweetsugarbelle.blogspot.com.  I couldn't believe my eyes!  This gal, whose work I adore, was writing to feature MY cookies!  Unbelievable!

Of course I said yes and here is the post.  Check out SugarBelle's work regularly - she is phenomenally talented and generous with her tips and inspirational photos.

Cinco de Mayo Cookies

Hola gringas!  Drink-o de Mayo is around the corner so Oh, Sugar was up late burning the midnight icing to create these colorful and festive sugar cookies for baby Sugar's preschool class (is a bottle of Corona inappropriate for a bunch of three year olds?  hmmm...).  So many iconic images to draw from!  I'm loving the colorful paper banners and the Virgin of Guadalupe might just be my fave.  Take a look at all the fun details.    Enjoy and ole!
